This is an organic website. As well as being updated, it will also grow, as more material becomes available.
The website contains a wealth of material, including:
- specially-commissioned and written pieces
- copies and scans of past publications pictures and other key documents;
- pointers and links to other key historical and archive sources
- personal anecdotes and reflections
- news and guidance about FANs, Rural Recall newsletters, organisation of the website
The website is structured into 4 main areas:
- Places: heritage material about each ACRE Network member/ rural community council, as well as about ACRE itself and its predecessor bodies
- People: biographies and autobiographies of key people in the history of the network
- Themes: ‘overview’ histories of the network’s involvement with and contribution to key topic areas in rural community development, such as affordable housing, small businesses, retailing and environmental conservation
- FANs and 100 Rural Years:
Getting involved:
FANs’ mission is to promote and celebrate the rich contribution which rural community councils (RCC)/ ACRE Network Members (ANM) have made, and will continue to make, to rural community development.
If you have been a member of staff, volunteer or other supporter of an RCC or ANM, you are welcome to join FANs. There is no fee. FANs is a means of rekindling past relationships and memories, and it is also an opportunity to contribute to the growing wealth of material about our network’s heritage.
You can help to ‘grow’ this website by adding articles and copies of heritage papers, digging-out any archive material that may be lingering on their bookshelves, and perhaps also supporting their local RCC/ANM with its archiving and heritage work. Plus, of course, encouraging other former colleagues to join FANs.
